RECORD > AGAIN! 40 Years Video Art in Germany, Part 2

Video Laboratory “RECORD > AGAIN! - 40yearsvideoart.de”

This extraordinary collection early German video art, part two of a much larger project, includes numerous discoveries which, for the most part, have no longer been available for viewing for decades. Many of the more than 40 videos had to undergo elaborate restoration before they could be played at all. The project, supported by the German Federal Cultural Foundation, aims to save, maintain, and mediate the cultural heritage of Video Art, which has become one the most influential art forms of the twentieth century.

Included are major reconstructions, such as the installation »Schafe« by Wolf Kahlen from 1975, shown on six black and white televisions; a rare work by Ulrike Rosenbach with her partner at the time, Klaus vom Bruch, the boxing match from 1972 that Joseph Beuys participated in at the documenta 5, and the first video synthesizer collages by Walter Schröder-Limmer.

Presented in collaboration with the MIT Program for Art, Culture and Technology
